    Origin

    From Old French coral (French corail), from Latin corallium, from Ancient Greek κοράλλιον (korallion, "coral"). Probably ultimately of Semitic origin (compare Hebrew גּוֹרָל (goral, "small pebble"), Arabic (garal, "small stone"), originally refering to the red variety found in the Mediterranean.
