Borrowed into English around 1600 from Late Latin anonymus, from Ancient Greek ἀνώνυμος (anÅnumos, "without name"), from ἀν- (an, "without") + ὄνυμα, Aeolic dialectal form of ὄνομα (onoma, "name").
