From Latin antidotum, from Ancient Greek ἀντίδοτον, neuter of ἀντίδοτος (antidotos, "given as a remedy for"), from ἀντιδίδωμι (antididÅmi, "I give in return, repay"), from ἀντί (anti, "against") + δίδωμι (didÅmi, "I give"). Compare French antidote.
