      • 1881 CE, Adolphe Marie Gubler, The Principles and Methods of Therapeutics (translated), D. G. Brinton; Chapter XVI, page #183:But the general fact is, that analgesia appears after a few minutes, and, in a number of cases, extends to anæsthesis, properly so called. You can measure this anæsthesis with the aid of a pair of compasses  ; you will find that a diversion of 12 or 15 millimetres gives rise to a single sensation, while on the homologous region you will obtain a dual sensation. Consequently, you see that it is real anæsthesis which is manifested.
