• Azimuthal

    Origin

In modern English azimuth + -al

From Old French azimut, which in turn is likely to be taken directly and unchanged from Turkish map-makers, which in turn is culturally transmitted from the Arabic word as-sumūt or al-sumūt (the plural of as-samt or al-samt).
