Cobber
Pronunciation
- IPA: /ˈkɒb.ə(ɹ)/
- Rhymes: -ɒbə(ɹ)
Origin
Perhaps from the British dialectal term cob ("take a liking to"). Another suggested source is Yiddish חבֿר (khaver, "comrade"), which is borrowed from Hebrew חבר (khavér, "friend").
