    1. (onomastics) The second element of a name composed of two traditional name roots.The Slavic given names Jaromir and Ludomir both contain the deuterotheme -mir ("peace").

    Usage notes

    A deuterotheme is not the same as a suffix. Most deuterothemes originate in older forms of a language, and come from an independent word with its own meaning, such as -mir from Proto-Slavic *mirъ (“peace; world”).
