From Old Norse dregg ("sediment"), from Proto-Germanic *drag ("") (whence also Icelandic dregg), from Proto-Indo-European *dher- ("to make muddy, murky"); see also Albanian ndrag ("to make dirty, to foul"), dra ("sediments of dairy products or liquids").
