From Middle French éminent, from Latin present participle eminens, eminentis, from verb Ä“mineÅ ("I project, I protrude"), from ex- ("out of, from") + mineÅ, related to mons (English mount). Compare with imminent. Unrelated to emanate, which is instead from mÄnÅ ("I flow").
