    From French giraffe (now girafe), from Arabic زَرَافَة (zarāfa, "giraffe"), apparently ultimately from Persian زرناپا (zurnāpā, "giraffe"), a compound of زرنا (zurnā, "flute, zurna") and پا (pā, "leg").
