Hypocorism
Pronunciation
- IPA: haɪˈpɒ.kəˌrɪ.zəm
Origin
Late Latin hypocorisma, a loan from Ancient Greek noun ὑποκόÏισμα from the verb ὑποκοÏίζομαι (hypokorÃzomai, "to talk in a childish manner"). The Ancient Greek verb ὑποκοÏίζομαι is compounded from ὑπό (hypo-, "under, beneath, secretly") + κοÏίζομαι (korÃzomai, "to caress").
