In sense “insaneâ€, similar to nuts, but more limited and somewhat milder: nutty means “eccentric, insaneâ€, while “nuts†can mean either “insane†or “enthused, agitated†(“the crowd went nutsâ€), for which “nutty†is not used: *“the crowd went nuttyâ€.
