(plural orthogeosynclines)- (geology) A linear geosynclinal belt lying between continental and oceanic cratons, and having internal volcanic belts (eugeosynclinal) and external nonvolcanic belts (miogeosynclinal). Also known as geosynclinal couple; primary geosyncline.
