From Middle English yare, Èare, from Old English Ä¡earu ("prepared, ready, prompt, equipped, complete, finished, yare"), from Proto-Germanic *garwaz ("ready"), from Proto-Indo-European *gÊ°rebÊ°-, *gÊ°erbÊ°- ("to grab, take, rake"). Cognate with Dutch gaar ("done, dressed, ready"), German gar ("ready, complete"), Icelandic görr, gerr ("perfect").
