From Middle English youngling, Èungling, from Old English Ä¡eongling ("a youth"), from Proto-Germanic *jungalingaz, *jungilingaz ("young man, youngling"), equivalent to young + -ling. Cognate with Dutch jongeling ("a youngster"), German Jüngling ("a youth"), Swedish yngling ("a youth, kid"), Icelandic unglingur ("teenager, youth"). More at young.
