From Late Latin muscus, from Ancient Greek μόσχος, from Middle Persian *muÅ¡k; compare Persian مشک. Ultimately from Sanskrit मà¥à¤·à¥à¤• (muá¹£ka, "testicle"), the shape of the gland being similar.
